The Quick List of Dos and Don’ts of Resume Writing
Is Your Resume Getting Calls From Recruiters?

Recruiting Managers spend all of ten seconds scanning your resume. What can you do to get the call from Hiring Managers?

-The resume tells a lot about you!

·        Are you organized?

·        Is it well written?

·        Are there typos?

·        Is it eye appealing?

·        Is it in past or present tense?

-When describing your Role does it read like a Job Description?

Resumes that read like a job description are boring and are a poor reflection of you!!!!!

-List your Accomplishments over the Job Description and Tasks.

·        List all of your accomplishments by job, particularly the last three jobs.

·        Lead with the most impressive accomplishment.

·        Reread your accomplishment and ensure that it sites the problem and the solution.

·        If you can, quantify the impact of the accomplishment.

·        Be careful not to include confidential information so use percentages as a way to quantify improvements or reductions.

-Organize the resume be truthful at all times!

·        Start with an Objective for the job search (make sure it aligns with your job experience).

·        Clearly outline the Employers (at least the last four).

·        List Employers’ address, your title, dates you were in the job (list all titles and dates showing a clear progression of promotion) and two or three lines of job tasks or description.

·        Under each job (following the description) list accomplishments. Head this section as Key Contributions or Significant Accomplishments. Bold the area of discipline for example (improved cost controls and reduced expenses by 20%). Use bullet format or indent.

·        For your earlier years (if you have over 20 years experience) bundle the jobs in a summary paragraph.

·        Use strong decisive words that demonstrate strength of character

·        List Education, Licenses or other achievements like CPA, Real Estate License, and Attorney

·        List Community Service, Publications, and Speaker engagements

·        Hobbies (gives them a hint about you the person)

Other information should include compensation range and willingness to relocate.
